Belt and Buckles have been around for a long time, with archaeologists finding evidence of ornamental Leather belts and buckles as far back as we can remember .These were worn by warriors and generally made from precious metals, typically as more of a decorative rather than functional adornment. We see buckles appear regularly from way back then to now, generally worn by the rich and used as another opportunity to flaunt their wealth, or again by the warriors of the day, or their introduction as the shoe fastener of choice for almost everyone around the 17th century.
As the beginning of the 20th century approached and trouser styles changed, the belt became more of a wardrobe essential and less of a pretty accessory. Up to this point, trousers weren’t worn on the waistline, but further up, further down, and all over the place, fastened with clips, clasps, cords and strings, but the modern trouser style was crying out for a better method of remaining elevated – hence the surge in popularity of buckle belts. |
